Ganni Spring/Summer 2025 Runway
Last week, Ganni debuted at Paris fashion week with their Spring/Summer 2025 collection. As Paris Fashion Week is one of the most historic and anticipated weeks on the fashion calendar, this was a major moment for the Danish brand and it's creative director, Ditte Reffstrup.
To some, it may seem strange that Ganni would show at Paris, this traditional landscape of high end luxury brands. But when speaking with Vogue, Reffstrup stated, “We are not trying to be someone, we are not trying to play a luxury game.” And that’s just Ganni. They know their brand and their customer. They aren't trying to reinvent the brand, and it’s staying true to themselves that has earned them their well-known name. And even with the elevation at Paris Fashion Week, the brand still stayed honest.
The show, titled “The Craft” was inspired by “witches” and modern alchemy– not the Oz kind, the witches that in Refftrup’s canon stood for female empowerment throughout history. While the show consisted of muted color palettes and slimy greens, orbited a silver cauldron, the theme was on display, but wasn't on the nose.
Alongside cheetah print, a house classic (which we at marmalade consider a neutral), we saw elements of “traditional” Ganni staples: exaggerated proportions, babydoll necklines, billowy sleeves, and metallic hardware. There was an emphasis on tailoring, with belted cropped trench coats and beautifully constructed mesh suiting sets.
One of the strongest elements on the runway was the witchy green associated with potions and the wicked witch of the west (dare we mention Brat?) This color was beautifully littered across the entire collection, adding contrast to neutrals in denim, jerseys, knitwear, and mesh. In compliment to the aforementioned Bratty green, deep blues and reds stood out as staples of the collection.
And so we romanticize Ganni as a modern alchemist, stirring potions of material innovation and casting curses on the environmental sinners of Paris fashion weeks past. SS25, like past collections, used their pioneering Fabrics of the Future program, introducing new textile innovations in collaboration with cutting edge textile engineers. They explored dozens of fabrication processes, with modern material such as Circulose, Celium, Pelinova, and Tex2Tex. They have yet to release any information on how these materials were used in this year's collection, a trade secret if you will. It's materials like this and the work put into exploring environmental options when it comes to retail that make Ganni such a strong and powerful brand amongst their competitors.
Ganni has always been a brand to fall in love with, especially with each new exciting season. And after this show, I can say I fell a little harder. It's so exciting to see the trajectory their brand has made over the years. We cannot wait for you to see what pieces for this collection will be available to shop in our stores!
